(Reuters) – New apartment buildings, a luxury hotel and a retail park are on the horizon in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma, after an $800 million renovation of the city’s historic Cotton Mill Park.
The new Cotton Mill Plaza will feature a 400-seat theater, four restaurants, a retail plaza and a hotel, the city said on Tuesday.
The project was first announced in 2015.
The city has a long history of success with affordable housing, including the building of the historic Cotton Mills building, which houses Tulsa’s only Jewish community center, the New York City Synagogue.
The Cotton Mill plaza is expected to be the tallest in the U.S. in 2018, and is expected be the most cost-effective project to date, city officials said.
The developers, Bowers & Marsh, also are working on a retail and entertainment development, Tulsa’s new mayor said.
