How to make your home ‘unlike your mother’s’

A Victorian family are living the dream of making their home “like your mum’s” after they bought an old Victorian home.

The couple, who live in Wollongong, purchased a two-storey Victorian house in August 2016 and are now planning to renovate it into a two bedroom apartment.

“It’s a real pleasure for us to be able to buy a home that’s like our mum’s,” Sarah and Robert McAllister said.

“We just feel that it’s important to get to know the property a bit better.”

The owner of the property has a lot of history with us and they know our family very well.

“They know how we live, what we eat, what our family does and the sort of things we like to do.”

The McAllisters have a dog named Coco who is currently on a walk through the property.

“He likes to come and play, and we’ve bought him a new coat,” Sarah said.

The McAndisters said they are planning to take Coco out of the house once he’s fully grown.

“You’ve got to let your kids do the work,” Sarah explained.

“I don’t think we’re going to have to pay for him, we’ll be doing the work.”

The couple said they plan to install a swimming pool and a garden in the property and are also considering adding a backyard.
